5 Questions to Ask Before Hiring A Roofing Contractor

We wanted to kick off our blog with the most important piece of content we could share with homeowners to make an informed purchasing decision when choosing a roofing company.
Here are the five questions to ask before hiring a roofing contractor:
What insurance and licensing does your company carry?
A roofing contractor in Illinois is required to be licensed with comprehensive liability insurance and workers compensation insurance to protect the homeowner in the event of an accident. Any reputable roofing company will provide these certificates upon your request.
What is your workmanship warranty?
A one-year workmanship warranty on labor is the bare minimum any contractor who believes in their work would offer. Even more important than how long the warranty is for, but how the contractor responds to questions or emergencies. The workmanship warranty comes down to trusting this person to address your concerns.
How long has your company been in business?
While longevity is not a sure sign of quality craftsmanship or a contractor’s reputation, a new company may not have the referrals or provide the support an established business can. Choosing a reputable roofing company with a track record spanning decades may be a safer bet than a start-up, or one experiencing a learning curve.
Can you provide referrals?
It is common practice for roofers to provide referrals from homeowners they have worked with in the past year. Choose one randomly and strike up a conversation about their experience. How long did the project take? If there was anything they could have done differently, what would it be?
Why should we choose you?
A new roof for your home is not a product- it is a long-term investment for your family. Hiring a professional roofing contractor can save you significant time, money and possible damage to your home if anything goes wrong.
