The 2017 Farmers’ Almanac says “Winter is back!”

Last year we experienced a warmer winter due to El Nino. This year we will not be so lucky. Forecasting an extremely cold and downright frigid next few months, the time to talk about properly insulating your home is here.

Poor insulation can result in higher energy bills and unstable temperatures throughout the home. If your home was built before 1980 it is almost certainly under-insulated. In fact, the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association estimates that 90% of all existing homes in the U.S. are under-insulated.

The Cost of Insulating Your Home

Your comfort comes at a cost. But too often that cost is perceived as so small that it is insignificant. However, for every degree you set back your thermostat can equal up to 3% of your total bill. If insulating your home  allows you to set your thermostat back two or three degrees, this can lead to significant energy and cost savings over the lifetime of your home.

Lower energy bills and better comfort are the big selling points. A dependable warranty and enhanced noise reduction from insulation that is up to code can be a wise investment.
